Timothy Robert Smith, In the Event of All Things to Be or Have Been Being Now, 2014, Oil on Canvas

Exhibit:
Movement + Narrative

February 4 to March 11

sp[a]ce at a/network is thrilled to announce its third exhibition, Movement + Narrative, this February. Participating artists include Alla Bartoshchuk, Carl Dobsky, John Griswold, Kenny Harris, Andrew Hem, Cody Jimenez, Julio Labra, Dana Christine Lewis, Perin Mahler, Serena Potter, Cynthia Sitton, Timothy Robert Smith, Sarah Stieber, and Peter Zokosky.

Curated by F. Scott Hess, the works in this exhibition promote interwoven themes of movement and narrative, with perceptions of the former creating the latter. Each piece carries a distinct visual identity that, when placed all together, inspires an empathetic response in the viewer, enhancing the overall aesthetic experience. By injecting motion to the motionless, Movement + Narrative’s images are imbued with a sense of action, which then craft their own story in the viewer’s eye.

Movement + Narrative is being exhibited in honor of the late Greg Escalante, co-founder of the legendary JUXTAPOZ Art Magazine and owner of Gregorio Escalante Gallery in Chinatown. Prior to his sudden passing in September 2017, this group show curated by F. Scott Hess was the last show Escalante had fully planned to exhibit at his gallery. Unfortunately, the gallery was immediately closed after Escalante’s death. Presented by sp[a]ce gallery at a/network, Escalante’s legacy lives on, expanded beyond both his and Hess’s original vision for the exhibit in Chinatown.
