During Harris’ junior year at Colorado College in Colorado Springs he studied abroad in Florence, Italy, immersing himself in Renaissance art, and classical figure drawing at the atelier of Charles Cecil. In New York he studied under Frank Mason at the Art Students’ League. Travel has greatly influenced Harris’ paintings, with his experiences in Central and South America, Europe, Cuba, Istanbul, and China inspiring bodies of work. Harris combines his classical training with the energetic, gestural use of line and color from the latter half of the 20th century. His oils walk the line between calm, naturalistic light studies and boldly defined color fields. In 2017 he received his MFA from the Laguna College of Art + Design, where he also teaches painting.
