My students’ growth and the process of teaching have heavily influenced the work I’ve been making while teaching high school students in China. I’m continuously building, breaking down, rebuilding and reassessing my lesson plans and my role as a teacher. The dynamic of my classroom necessitates me to peel away the layers of formal training to the basic elements of design, so I can help build a platform for my students to stand on. I watch my students grow in and outside of class and help them through their struggles, learn about their hopes, their dreams and their fears. The work has become a way to understand their development into independent people, and my hope is that they will find their way in life.
