Alana Balagot

Alana Balagot is a software engineer and composer with interests in artistic and functional robotics, IOT, inventing, DJing, electronic music production, and stand-up comedy. Her past hardware projects include a robotic pumpkin, a robotic Nerf gun, robotic angel wings, an interactive light-up dress, and a poster-sized VU meter.

“Four Muses” is a Kinetic Robotic Sculpture with four instruments: a xylophone, a cajón, pipes, and a motor frequency instrument. They are controlled wirelessly from a keyboard interface with an LED display using arduinos, teensies, and NRF24 chips. The instruments use solenoids, stepper motors, servos, and a blower fan to play music. The controller has four modes: a live mode, a sequencer mode, a learning mode, and a playback mode.

“Narcissus” is an interactive kinetic sculpture made up of 48 individual motorized mirrors that track faces. It presents viewers with an alternative view of their self, looking back at the viewer. IG @alana31415
