Esther’s paintings and recent sculptures are based on memories of growing up in Texas with an eccentric father who built giant metal flying saucers in the front yard. Her paintings are often overtly narrative, clear but mysterious scenes of houses or figures ornamented with snippets of prose telling just enough to get the viewer’s own imagination engaged. Watson grew up in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, earned her BFA from Art Center College of Design and an MFA from CalArts. Her text-driven, faux-naive paintings have been exhibited world wide, including at Oakland Museum of California and the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth.
