Kjelshus Collins is an Oklahoma City-based artist and art educator working in traditional printmaking, ceramics, and artisanal toys. Born to artists, his mother being a master painter and father a folk artist, Kjelshus was projected upon by American art through his parents’ travels to art festivals and galleries around the country. Aside from his adventurous childhood, he studied art at university earning a BFA and BA in Art History with a focus on ceramics and Eastern art in 2006. After graduating and working as an art handler, Kjelshus earned a teaching certificate in art education in 2008 and has taught in fine art institutions, museums, colleges, and public schools. Kjelshus’ work is heavily influenced by German expressionist woodcuts, the Chicago Imagists, and pop culture. Relying on these sources, he uses his imagery to explore the relationship of humans with pre-history, archeology, consumerism, and mass production. When he’s not working, he kicks it hard with his fam in a century old Sears and Roebuck kit house. IG @killajayzeus
